Have you ever looked at a neighbor’s lawn and wondered how they got such a neatly patterned yard? You may think it requires planting different kinds of grass and mowing it at different times. However, achieving this stylish look is a lot easier than you think. If you want to upgrade the look of your grass, keep reading. When you need a new mower, call Burrows Tractor. We are proud to have three locations in Washington and one in Oregon!

Use Lawn Features as Guides

There’s nothing worse than having all of your hard work go to waste because your pattern looks unaligned or misshapen! To ensure neat lines, use features of your lawn, like sidewalks or driveways, to guide you when you create your design.

Let the Grass Grow

The easiest way to create dark sections of your lawn pattern is to use your mower after the grass blades are a little taller. This will increase their ability to bend since they’ll be more flexible. If the blades are too short, they may straighten out too soon.

Edge Your Yard

Before you use your mower to create your desired pattern, you’ll want to run two passses at the outside edges of your yard. Edging your lawn will give you more room to take turns on your mower and will ensure that the edges stay even.

Press With a Roller

Your mower can handle most of the work involved with creating a lawn pattern, but using a roller to bend the blades will help you intensify the difference between the light and dark sections.

The Right Kind of Grass

Some kinds of grass are better for creating lawn designs than others. Cool season grasses are easier to bend, so they’re a good choice for making patterns. These types of grass usually grow during the spring.

Change Patterns

One last tip we have is to switch up your lawn pattern instead of sticking to one. If you only use one design, the tires on your mower always press down on the same areas which reduces the airflow and eventually results in bald patches or weeds. Change up your pattern to keep your yard healthy!

We hope these tips will help you achieve your dream lawn pattern! If you want any more advice or you’re looking to buy some new equipment, contact Burrows Tractor.
